Luxury Car Rental Requirements in Dubai

Age, driving licence, documents, deposit, Salik tolls, fuel and insurance rules for renting a luxury car in Dubai in 2026.

Renting a luxury car in Dubai is simple, but every company checks the same things. Here is what you need, as of October 2026.

Minimum age

The minimum age is 21, with a driving licence held for at least one year. For luxury, sports and exotic cars most companies ask for 25 years and about three years of driving experience; we confirm the rule for your car in the quote

Driving licence for visitors

Visitors on a visit visa can drive with their home licence if it was issued in a recognised country: the GCC states, most European countries including the UK, the USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, among others. Drivers from other countries need an International Driving Permit issued in the country of their licence; it cannot be obtained in the UAE. A licence that is not in English or Arabic needs a legal translation.

Driving licence for UAE residents

Once you hold a UAE residence visa you must drive with a UAE driving licence; a foreign licence or an International Driving Permit is no longer valid. Residents show their Emirates ID and their passport with the residence visa.

Documents

Visitors: original passport with the UAE entry stamp or visa, home driving licence (and an International Driving Permit where required) and a credit card in the driver's name; debit cards are often refused. Residents: Emirates ID, UAE driving licence and a copy of the passport and residence visa. GCC citizens: national ID card.

Security deposit

The deposit is a hold on your credit card, not a payment. It starts at about AED 1,000 for premium cars and reaches AED 5,000 or more for supercars and Rolls-Royce models; some cars are available with zero deposit. Under Dubai consumer protection rules the hold must be released within 30 days after you return the car if there are no charges. Fines, Salik tolls, damage, fuel and extra kilometres are deducted from it.

Salik road tolls

Dubai's Salik toll gates charge AED 6 at peak times (weekdays 6-10 am and 4-8 pm), AED 4 off-peak and on Sundays, and nothing between 1 and 6 am. Tolls and traffic fines are charged after the rental, with a small administration fee.

Fuel policy

Same to same: return the car with the same fuel level as at pick-up. Missing fuel is charged at the company's rate. Chauffeur services include fuel.

Insurance

Third-party insurance is mandatory and included. Damage to the car is covered with an excess (deductible) unless you choose full cover at booking. Any claim needs a police report; tyres, glass and the underbody are often excluded.

Mileage limits

Most luxury cars include 250 km per day, some 300 km or more. Extra kilometres cost about AED 3-13 each, depending on the car.
